Been a while since I blogged...! SO I'm pursuing the jewellery and oh so want to do enamelling again. Also I've really put effort into offering Custom Pet Portraits in acrylic. Some of the pets have ended up in my own work as print for sale onto canvas or paper. http://www.saz.imagekind.com/
Just spent the last hour looking at most beautiful enamelling work..I love this medium !. Incorporates design,pattern,theme,composition and making..right up my street;).
Also been great to get going on painting again, I'm bit partial to the square canvas. There's new website to this portrait idea. http://www.mutleyandcoportraiture.com/ . Really trying to keep things simple by separating it off the main site. Had to become a marketing feind to get this going..lol..

Next I'm going to pick on my own budgies for the next painting..named "Millie and Blue" It's all 'Blue" fault that I have these two.. He turned up ( from nowhere;) after few weeks, no sign of owner. Felt sorry for him ...decided he needed a friend. $11.99 later we have 'Millie" ..right little couple these two have become. Actually really sweet, so affection little peps:).....

Hand Forged Sterling Silver Earrings. Took time over the links soldering each one and filing, polishing. No melting or fusing together so that was good;) Idea to have these 18ct and Oxidized (Blackened) Silver.

This Children's Book written by Howard Schrager..Illustrations by Sarah Madsen.

Howard has written an educational children's book using Riddle Rhymes to let u guess the 50 States.

This is a Trilogy. BTW Book 2 is nearly done ready to go to press (based upon Cities.)

Amazing to get it back in a physical book sense, this for me was an wonderful opportunity to work with Howard and his ideas on these Riddle Rhymes. Took me a while to get an idea of what kind of "style" to develop for these Riddles. (now think I've got it ::)))

One of the Illustrations I've done for the 2nd children's book titled "Chicken in the Car and the Car Can't Go" written by Howard Schrager. Howard wanted to create educational fun guessing rhymes for children to guess cities with in the U.S.A.
Some times u kinda miss the small details like it was originally quoted as "He flew to the moon before the cat landed" HE??

Not the best file in term of colour. But his little rascal got me in the Mall galleries ....Oh many moons ago. Love watercolor...got get around to more. Hopeless blogger I know...life .But here a quick update. Eventually after much time a style or interest begins to emerge. I don't have enough time to study portraiture in oil painting ...so instead......I've always liked pattern & design. Love line...so here's is many elements combined. The leaves floating around on the dress came from a watercolor study I did long ...long time ago. The figure itself was a quick life study of a women in a coffee shop ( originally in biro on plain white paper.) The rest is Imagination in Corel Painter and trying out pattern making in photoshop.

I find these loose drawings done on any scrap paper... usually forgotten that I've done them. This is Dan at one of my coffee shop haunts here in Vegas. Done in biro pen, i just love biro for some reason..think it picks up even the faintest lines that I want draw.

Think I might later digitally paint this, loose watercolor and chalk are favorite brushes. Digital has an image problem. Some folk think the computer does the work:(

Ring and Pendant from silver scraps. Little bit limited due to torch size and other equipment. Been a long while since I've done any metalwork or soldering. Funny because that's all I did for 3 years straight ( degree). I really did feel clumsy to begin with, especially soldering...this was so automatic to me at one time. Hey it's all back....like riding a bike:) And I managed to solder the thinnest, tiniest piece with out unsoldering and melting other parts at the same time. ( Without any "Rouge" or protection stuff for those vulnerable parts. YES!!!!!!:) It was a make or break point in the project so that is a definate happy YESS! Dance round the room type of YES:)

* should mention this is how Silver looks before finishing ...filing and polishing.

O.k nothing to really shout about. Especially to those out there who have a full jewellery studio up and running. But after not soldering a piece of metal for some years now ..I really had to start up something. Even with the smallest torch and tinyiest "pickle"pot. So with the scrap's I have I decided to make do and see what will happen.

Started a couple of items...then find out what u immediately miss!! It's amazing what u need really ...rolling mill, vice, bench to hammer on, DECENT TORCH!

But the bench..it's here...hopefully the ball will start rolling:) One day ..the studio!

The other day I had all fingers and toes crossed that I sent the illustrations correctly to the graphic designer for a clients children's book. She rang me and told me they were lovely!!She'd been in the business since 1982 and may even have further work:) It's very difficult when working alone to gauge the direction and quality sometimes. Dear Family always tell u it's great but that doesn't mean it makes it in the professional world. This color version is for my own portfolio.

O.k I finished the 50 ( in B& W only) illustrations. Phew. It's in the Mail to the client's graphic designer. I'm all fingers crossed that I saved all images at the right dpi, file sixe etc and they are going to come out o.k. Hoping the graphic designer doesn't think ...WHAT?!!

This is always difficult when u start new venture/self -taught and u realise is the the correct "procedure"?? Sure could 've made things easier for myself at the beginning. Many of the illustrations were first drawn too large for my scanner. Sure I photographed them and downloaded them. Though when it came time edit...white space and getting the right contrast became tricky.

O.k we are going to find out in next couple of days....:)

I started this idea a while ago about self publishing a small book on my efforts as an artist between being a Mama to 4 kidlets. Almost impossible!

I really early on in my "career" as a Mama had difficulty realising that the time I had, had to be channelled towards the children and not my own arty passion. Visions of being an fine art oil painter or one of a kind precious jeweller had to take a back seat for now. So the children's world opened up to me with the amazing talents of children's illustrators...could I do that? I ended up trying with the first book " The Dragon's Gift." written by Tom Allen.

So where am I now...developing more illustrations for another self -publisher. We'll see.

But yes I miss jewellery & enamelling.It's not to say I can't do it now. But finances & time are the culprits. ( may'be I don't manage my time efficiently...quite honestly do I need to be perfect?..I can't. :)

Funny I haven't looked at this cover Idea for a while ..and I want to change things!

I'm so not a painter at this time. I mean Oil paintings. Really quite hard without guidance to get this to a reasonable level. But hey, have to start some where. So I have this idea of producing at least 50 5"x 7" oil paintngs onto canvas. These are all painted "Alla Prima" basically means in painted in one go quickly. This suits me anyway as 1) I usually paint better and 2) Kids!

Now my kids are awake ,have to stop typing for now. But this is my "Lemons" attempt and I can see flaws ..I might just touch up those later
